TaylorMade’s Qi35 Fairway offers several new features that separate it in style and substance from last year’s Qi10 Fairway model

The company has given the Qi35 a new multi-material crown that lightens and balances the club head for higher MOI and greater swing speed.

TaylorMade has also provided loft-specific weighting to each wood in the series to lower and deepen the CG for customized ball flight.

When it comes to adjustability, the Qi35 Fairway carries a 4-degree loft sleeve that can create ideal distance, launch, and dispersion off either the tee box or fairway grass.

TaylorMade Qi35 Fairway Wood Features

Multi-Material Construction

Using carbon, steel, and aluminum, TaylorMade has given the Qi35 Fairway a lighter feel throughout the swing but maintains a sturdy, low-twist face during impact.

The multi-material also improves feel and responsiveness, giving golfers a first-rate experience from anywhere on the course.

TSS Weighting System

TaylorMade’s new weighting system, made specifically for the Qi35 Fairway Woods, offers loft-specific weighting behind the face to optimize launch and distance.

Although this weighting isn’t adjustable, it does concentrate more power directly behind the sweet spot to get the most out of impacts in the center of the face.

4° Loft Sleeve

The 4° loft sleeve offers total control of lie and loft to produce the ideal distance, launch, and ball flight for each swing.

Golfers can quickly increase or decrease the loft to counteract weather elements such as wind and rain to better attack the hole.

Our In-Depth TaylorMade Qi35 Fairway Wood Review

TaylorMade Qi35 Fairway Wood crown

Looks

At first glance, we were a bit cold toward the Qi35 Fairway Wood.

It’s similar in color to the Qi10 and has some design similarities to most modern drivers, but we must admit that after some time with the driver, the look really grew on us.

As with all drivers nowadays, the Qi35 offers a full one-piece crown with a face that fits into the head’s sole.

The face piece provides weighting and a much stiffer and heavier piece that works well with the lighter crown.

Just looking at the sole alone, the designers did a very solid job at keeping the busyness to a minimum.

There are two minor green flecks at the top and bottom of the sole, and frankly, they are unnecessary. We’ve never been a fan of color as an afterthought and the green flecks certainly feel superfluous.

Sound

When looking at the sound, we expected a bit more than we got out of this new TaylorMade Fairway, but that said, it remained crisp and pleasing throughout our testing.

With the lower profile and smaller club head, you aren’t getting anywhere near the sound you are from a driver, but we all like to experience that whoosh and snapping sound from a well-struck ball.

Overall, you get that with the Qi35 Fairway. So while we’d like to complain a little about the sound, it’s hard to deny that you get what you’d expect from a top-tier club like this one.

Feel

Regarding feel and responsiveness, the Qi35 delivers nice feedback on off-center strikes and well-struck shots that find the center of the face.

Balls off the toe maintain ball speed and don’t violently shake the club in the hands with vibration.

Turf interaction is clean and certainly helps improve the responsiveness of each strike of the golf ball.

The oversized head helps keep the face centered on the golf ball so we rarely experienced thin shots. The fairway wood isn’t too stiff but remains sturdy throughout the swing.

Performance

After our indoor session, we were quite pleased with the forgiveness and accessibility of the Qi35 Fairway.

The spin rate stayed relatively level throughout our sessions, at around 3000 RPM. This kept the ball flight in check and prevented our shots off the short grass from getting too flighty.

The Qi35 Fairway may not be as dynamic as the Qi35 Tour Fairway in terms of workability, but it surprised us with how easy it made shot shaping.

The 4° loft sleeve helps with moving the ball in all intended directions and remains one of the top features for the adventurous golfer looking to jump into the next handicap level.

Balls that come off the lower half of the face feel clean and not thin, something that certainly helps if you are inconsistent with the smaller club head.

For mid handicappers looking to upgrade their mid-range game and a weapon for the tee box, the Qi35 Fairway offers sturdy, repeatable ball flight that delivers exceptional distance and pinpoint accuracy with superb forgiveness.

Our Verdict

When it comes to producing repeatable ball flight that you can depend upon on the links, the TaylorMade Qi35 Fairway Wood has no equals.

The ball comes off hot and quick off the face with minimal side spin, helping golfers keep shots heading toward the target with maximum speed.

We also found the Qi35 Fairway utilizes the Twist Face Technology beautifully on off-center strikes, helping golfers keep the ball in a tight circle.

For long par 4s and 5s, the Qi35 also works extremely well as a driver alternative that reduces the odds of hitting a poor shot that finds the rough.

The Qi35 Fairway offers a complete package for your golf bag. It is ideal for mid-handicappers but accessible enough for low-handicappers who want more forgiveness.
